Historian's Note

When I received a phone call in 1991 from Fred Merritt inquiring if I was interested in being a part of an H-3-1 Marine reunion group, I never imagined it would be so successful.

Our first meeting, November, 1991 was held in Beaufort, NC and was only sparsely attended.  The weekend included a visit to Parris Island where we observed young recruits doing their basic training.  Fortunate to be there on November 11th we were invited to the Platoon Graduation with all its pomp and circumstance.  Our visit to Parris Island also included lunch in the mess hall with a birthday cake.

As part of this initial meeting we held elections.  Fred Merritt, was elected Commandant and  Chuck (Charles) Lyman, Treasurer.  ... and, since I had a huge scrapbook of Korean memorabilia, I was elected Historian, a position I  continue to hold to this date.  The number of scrap books has now grown to more than one hundred, thanks to the contributions of my fellow Marines and their families.
